“TO CREATE FUN FAMILY-INSPIRED CLOTHING THAT ENCOURAGES FAMILIES TO SPEND TIME TOGETHER AND ENJOY ALL THE MOMENTS, BIG AND SMALL.”
HOW WE BEGAN
Scene: July 2006 - Marci and I (Amber) were sitting outside on a warm summer day in Cary, North Carolina, drinking coffee, enjoying a rare break from young kids, demanding jobs, husbands, and the other million little things screaming for our constant attention.
(script adapted from my best memory efforts…it went something like this...)
Marci: I’m so busy with everything I feel I don’t spend any time enjoying the moments I have with my family.
Amber: I feel the same way. Time is speeding by, kids are growing too fast. I fear I’m missing all the little moments, you know, the most important ones.
Marci: I wish there was a way we could remember to take the moments we have, stop and enjoy them, not rush through them to get to the next task of the day.
Amber: That is an awesome idea! A visual reminder. Something tangible that makes us pause and really see what we have. Take that extra second to live in the wonderful moment we have right in front of us.
Marci: I like clothes. Perhaps something on a shirt.
Amber: Like, “Love Your Family?”
Marci: Perfect! Let’s do it.
And we did. And that’s how Footsteps Clothing and our Love Your Family® brand of clothing came to be.
WHO WE ARE
We are a family-run company that is all about families. In 2009 another family member joined us; Marci’s awesome husband Paul as our CFO. With his help we were able to streamline our processes to keep prices of our products reasonable so that as many families as possible can enjoy our products. At peak times, our children love helping out at our office, offering inspiration and fun and often the most creative ideas for new products.
It takes a lot of trust and belief to engage into a partnership and build a company. To invest money, time, blood, sweat and tears into a belief and desire to make a difference. We had some very special early customers who are with us still 8 years later, whose belief and support encouraged us to take some risks and invest in ourselves. Marci and I are best friends still to this day. I could not have wished for a better friend, confidante and business partner. Since our first conversation over coffee, we have moved our company out of my dining room three times into larger warehouses in order to grow and spread our vision and message. From small beginnings as a Mother-Daughter specialty boutique, we immediately received feedback from customers to add boys and men. Now we are proud to offer father-son clothing, daddy and baby clothing, mommy and baby clothing as well as matching clothing for the whole family, including the family dog!
I left my full time job as a CPA to focus full time as Customer Happiness Director. As far as I am concerned, I have the best job in the world.
